

Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone of IIM Sambalpur, Orissa permanent campus virtually on January 2nd, 2020 at 11 am.
IIM Sambalpur was established in the year 2015. Currently, it is functioning from its temporary campus located at Sambalpur University, and now it will get its new campus. Director of the institution, Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal said the construction work of the campus is expected to get completed by April 2022. It will be a fully equipped state of art structure with the glimpse of Heritage and art of Odisha in its building design. He further added that the new permanent campus of Sambalpur will have the energy-efficient green features as per the GRIHA’ standards, with the resources of renewable energy.
Mr Jaiswal also said that the Orissa government provided 200 acres of land for construction of this proposed IIM Sambalpur campus. It will be constructed with the support of the union ministry of education for which it will get a grant of 401.97 crores.
Along with Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, other dignitaries like Governor of Odisha Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister of Orissa Naveen Patnaik, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were present during the ceremony.
Apart from this, over 5000 invitees attended this Foundation laying ceremony virtually. Among these invitees, dignitaries from the Centre Government as well as from the Government of Orissa, directors of IIMs, IITs and IISERs, PSU executives, and industry leaders, were present.
During the ceremonial conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the initiatives taken by the Education Ministry of India for the creation of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He said that “innovation, integrity and inclusion have emerged as the key mantras in the field of management which can help India achieve the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
Mr Modi asserted that “local products will have global reach with the help of new management concepts and technology”. "Today's start-ups in India are tomorrow's Multinational Corporations". He called upon the young managers to align their career goals to the aspirations of the country.
In his speech, he mentioned that “IIM Sambalpur will go a long way in giving Odisha a new identity in the field of management education apart from creating tremendous opportunities for the handloom and other sectors in the region.”
Soon after the conclusion of stone laying ceremony, Union Education Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' tweeted “Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji laid the foundation stone of the permanent campus of #IIMSambalpur & said that youth will be responsible to give a new image to brand India globally.
