Foreign board students can join CBSE schools in Classes 9-12 without prior approval

By Twinkle Jain Updated on December 04th, 2021

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has simplified the process of admission of students studying foreign boards in its affiliated schools. Earlier, if students were to be transferred to a CBSE affiliated school in class 9 to 12, they would need prior approval from the board. CBSE has waived that requirement, the board announced on November 25.

"In the post period of corona pandemic, many families are shifting to India because of various reasons. Therefore, many students studying abroad in foreign boards are joining schools affiliated to the CBSE," said the board's press statement. Every time a student would move, they had to get CBSE through the school to approve their admission in Classes 9 to 12 based on the equivalency between CBSE's board curriculum and the foreign board's. "Keeping the current circumstances and problems faced by these students and their families [in mind], CBSE has decided that now onward, no such prior approval is required," said the statement.

"A list of equivalency of Classes 10 and 12 of foreign boards with similar classes of the CBSE has been hosted on CBSE website," it said. The list of equivalency is on page 58, in Chapter 11 of the CBSE’s examination by-laws.
