Veterinary Science is the course for all the animals' lovers who want to pursue their career in the field of medicine. It is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, control, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, disorder, and injury in animals. It also deals with the rearing of animals, husbandry, breeding, research on nutrition, and product development.

The scope of veterinary science is broad because it covers all the animal species, both domesticated and wild, with a wide range of conditions that can affect different species.

Veterinary Science is the only profession where the scope is multidimensional, multidisciplinary, and multidirectional. A vet may enter into various career options, as:

  • Government Veterinary Officers: A vet is eligible to be a Veterinary Officer after completion of an undergraduate degree in veterinary science. It depends upon the vacancies released by the state government.
  • Academics: A vet can start a career as an academician, through Ph.D. and other essentials required qualifications.
  • RVC: Vets May apply for Indian Army Remount and Veterinary Corps and work for the Indian army.
  • Scientists: By qualifying Agriculture Research Services (ARS) exams, one may become a scientist and get involved in the research.
  • Private Practice: A vet can establish his/her clinic or join other operational clinics or hospitals.
  • Animal Nutritionist: By doing PG in Animal nutrition, a vet can choose a career as a nutritionist for either large animals, pets, or Poultry.
  • Corporate Jobs: A good number of vets join various MNCs or Indian companies in the dairy, pet, or poultry sector, where they can work for product management, technical management, or marketing management.
  • Entrepreneurs: A vet during their studies learns a lot so as become an entrepreneur in the dairy, poultry, or pet animal field. A private practitioner also falls into this category.

Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc): Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) is a postgraduate degree that comes up with a duration of 2 years that is solely based on animals. Entrance Exams for Veterinary Science Courses

For admission in Veterinary Science, almost every other institute or university in India select candidates according to the merit list prepared on the basis of entrance exam scores and ranks. Formerly the All India Pre- Veterinary Test (AIPVT) and Pre- Veterinary Test (PVT) was an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate veterinary courses in government or private veterinary colleges in India. But now there is only a single entrance exam for admission in the Veterinary science field, i.e., NEET UG and NEET PG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
