About UGC NET 2021

The National Eligibility Test also referred to as the UGC NET or NTA NET, is a form of examination used for determining the eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship award in Indian universities and colleges. The candidates clearing the examination will also be eligible for lucrative jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) The examination will be conducted twice a year, usually in June and December.

UGC NET is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC NET is a tough case to crack. As of 2018, the qualification rate is only 6%. The medium of language used for the examination is Hindi or English with the exemption of a language as the subject.

UGC NET Exam Eligibility 2021

NTA will declare the eligibility criteria of UGC NET 2021 with the release of official notification only. Candidates need to check whether they satisfy the eligibility criteria to appear for the examination. The following are the criteria:

  • 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent exam from institutions/universities recognized by UGC in subjects such as Computer Science &Applications Humanities, Social Science, Electronic Science, etc.  
  • 50% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination for persons with disability(PwD) Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST) and Other Backward Classes(OBC).
  • Candidates who are Ph.D. degree holders and completed their Master’s level examination and waiting for the declaration of the result are eligible for 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (i.e.  55% to 50%).
  • Candidates with a master’s degree or those who are appearing for their final year of master’s exam or those waiting for their results can also apply for this exam. However, candidates have to pass their master’s degree to become eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship/Eligibility for Assistant Professor.   
  • Candidates who have done Institute or foreign degree/ post-graduate diploma/ certificate awarded by the foreign institutions.
  • University/diploma/certificate awarded by an Indian University should ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of  Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
  • Candidates must be at least 30 years of age to be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship.
  • There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET Application Process 2021

NTA will bring out the application form of UGC NET 2021 for the June session in online mode probably in the third week of March 2021. Candidates need to fill UGC NET application form 2021 in four stages. During the UGC NET 2021 registration for the June session, candidates should keep all necessary documents along with them.

Documents Required to fill UGC NET application form 2021:

  • Valid email ID with your Mobile Number
  • Aadhaar Card Number/Voter ID Card/ Other such Govt ID
  • Category Certificate, if applicable for Person with Disability (PwD) Certificate and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Certificate.
  • Qualifying Degree Certificate or the last semester mark sheet
  • Copy of Board/University Certificate

How to fill up the UGC NET 2021 Application Form?

Step 1: Registration

  • Firstly candidates need to visit the official website of UGC NET
  • Now they have to register for the exam by furnishing details like name, email ID, date of birth, gender, mobile number, address, and so on. After the submission of these details, candidates need to choose a password as per their choice and opt for a security question with an answer and go for the submit button.
  • A UGC NET 2021 application number will be provided on the registered mobile number and email after the completion of the registration process.

Step 2: Fill UGC NET Application Form

  • Candidates have to complete the remaining application form once get registered by selecting a subject, exam center, category, educational details, and other important details without any mistakes.

Step 3: Upload Documents

  • Applicants will be required to upload scanned images of photographs and signatures as per the prescribed format. Documents required for UGC NET
    • Recent Photograph of the candidate. The photograph's size should be between 10 kb to 200 kb and the dimensions should be 3.5cm× 4.5cm
    • Signature of the candidate within the range of 04KB to 30KB. The dimensions should be 3.5cm×1.5cm

Step 4: Fee Payment

  • Candidates will have to pay the application fee via online mode through SBI /Syndicate/HDFC/ICICI Payment Gateway (Debit/Credit Card/ Net Banking/Paytm).

Exam Pattern

UGC NET will be provided in online mode. All the questions will be Multiple Choice question types. Each question carries two marks. The question will have 4 options and candidates are requested to select the most appropriate answer. There is no negative marking and all the questions are compulsory. There will be a total of 50 questions for Paper 1 and 100 questions for Paper 2 consisting of 100 and 200 marks respectively. There is no restriction to move between papers.

UGC NET Exam Syllabus 2021

UGC NET consists of two papers. Paper 1 and Paper 2 shall be conducted consecutively without any break. Paper 1 is the same and mandatory for each candidate.  Candidates are expected to study the given syllabus thoroughly.

Unit-I Teaching Aptitude 

  • Teaching: Levels of teaching (Memory, Understanding, and Reflective), Concept, Objectives, Characteristics, and other basic requirements.
  • Learner’s characteristics: The Characteristics of adolescent and adult learners (Social, Academic, Emotional and Cognitive), Individual differences.
  • Factors affecting teaching related to Learner, Teacher, Instructional facilities, Support material, Learning environment, and the Institution.
  • Methods of teaching in different institutions of higher learning: Teacher-centered vs. Learner-centered methods; offline vs. Online methods.
  • Teaching Support Systems: Modern, Traditional, and ICT based.
  • Evaluation Systems: Elements and Types of evaluation, Computer-based testing, Innovations in evaluation systems, Evaluation in Choice Based Credit System in Higher education.

Unit-II Research Aptitude

  • Research: Meaning, Postpositivistic approach to research Types, Characteristics, and Positivism.
  • Methods of Research: Experimental, Qualitative, Descriptive, Historical, and Quantitative Methods, Steps in Research. 
  • Thesis and Article writing: Application of ICT in research, Format, and styles of referencing, Research ethics.

Unit-III Comprehension

  • A passage of text will be given. Questions are asked from the passage which has to answer by the candidate

Unit-IV Communication

  • Communication: Meaning, types, and characteristics of communication.
  • Effective communication: Inter-Cultural and group communications, Verbal and Non-verbal, Classroom communication, Mass-Media, Barriers to effective communication, and the Society.

Unit-V Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude

  • Types of reasoning: Letter series, Codes, Number series, and Relationships.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Fraction, Time & Distance, Profit and Loss, Interest and Discounting, Averages, Ratio, Proportion, and Percentage.

Unit-VI Logical Reasoning

  • Understanding the structure of arguments: the structure of categorical propositions, argument forms, Mood and Figure, Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning, Formal and Informal fallacies, Uses of language, Connotations, and denotations of terms, Classical square of opposition,
  • Analogies
  • Venn diagram: Simple and multiple uses for establishing the validity of arguments. 
  • Indian Logic: Means of knowledge, Pramanas- Pratyaksha (Perception), Anumana (Inference), Upamana (Comparison), Shabda (Verbal testimony), Arthapatti (Implication) and Anupalabddhi (Non-apprehension).  Structure and kinds of Anumana (inference), Vyapti (invariable relation), Hetvabhasas (fallacies of inference).

Unit-VII Data Interpretation

  • Sources, acquisition, and classification of Data.
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Data.
  • Graphical representation (Bar-chart, Histograms, Pie-chart, Table-chart, and Line-chart)
  • Mapping of Data, Data Interpretation. Data and Governance.

Unit-VIII Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • ICT: General abbreviations and terminology, Basics of the Internet, Intranet, E-mail, Audio and Video-conferencing, Digital initiatives in higher education. ICT and Governance.

Unit-IX People, Development and Environment

  • Development and Environment: The Millennium Development and Goals for Sustainable Development.
  • Environmental issues: Water pollution, Soil pollution, Noise pollution, Waste (solid, liquid, biomedical, hazardous, electronic), Local, Regional and Global; Air pollution, Climate change, and its Socio-Economic and Political dimensions. Impacts of pollutants on human health.
  • Human and environment interaction: Anthropogenic activities and their impact on the environment.
  • Natural and energy resources: Solar, Wind, Soil, Hydro, Geothermal, Biomass, Nuclear, and Forests.
  • Natural hazards and disasters: Mitigation strategies, Environmental Protection Act (1986), National Action Plan on Climate Change, International agreements/efforts -Montreal Protocol, Rio Summit, Convention on Biodiversity, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, International Solar Alliance.

  • Institutions for higher learning and education in ancient India.
  • Evolution of higher learning and research in the Post Independence India.

  • Policies, Governance, and Administration.

Note: The subject for paper 2 is chosen by the candidate. There are options for subjects from various areas.

UGC NET Results 2021

NTA will declare the results of the UGC NET 2021 June session through online mode. To check results, candidates should use their application number and date of birth/password. To know the way to download UGC NET result 2021, go through the points mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website - ugcnet.nta.nic.in

Step 2: Click on UGC NET 2021 June/December results.

Step 3: Enter the UGC NET application number and password/date of birth in the login window that appears.

Step 4: The screen will then show the UGC NET result of 2021.

Step 5: Download the result and save it for future references.

UGC NET FAQs 

Q1. Is there any sectional time limit for the UGC NET exam?

A1. No, there isn't any time limit. The candidate is free to attempt any question in any order they wish.

Q2. Is there any cut-off mark for UGC NET 2021?

A2. Yes, there us. The cut-off mark for General Category Candidates is 40% and for Reserved Categories, it is 35%.

Q3. Is there any age relaxation for the exam?

A3. Yes. According to the Eligibility criteria, the following relaxations can be made:

  • ST/SC, OBV, Women, PwD, and Transgenders have 5 years of relaxation.
  • Candidates having research experience also have 5 years of relaxation.
  • Candidates holding an L.L.M degree have 3 years of relaxation. -Candidate who served in the armed forces has 5 years of relaxation.

Q4. Can one apply for more than one subject for UGC NET?

A4.  No, a candidate can only choose to write an examination on one subject per exam.

Q5. Is UGC NET 2021 in online or offline mode?

A5. The examination will be conducted through online mode. It is a computer-based test.
