The BUAT (Banda University of Agriculture and Technology) conducts its admission examination to offer students admission into the Agriculture and Horticulture courses offered in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The BUAT Admission is organised in the offline mode, i.e. paper and pen test. Applicants who qualify are offered admission to the university. Banda University accepts entry through UPCATET scores.

UPCATET Eligibility Criteria

The UPCATET 2020 eligibility requirements for different BSc and BFSc courses is as mentioned below.

BSc (Honours) Agriculture/BSc (Honours) Forestry/BSc (Honours) Horticulture

Students applying must have cleared Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)/Agricultural Science/Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM)/Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology (PCMB) subjects to meet the UPCATET eligibility criteria.

Bachelor in Fisheries Science (BFSc)

Aspiring candidates must have cleared Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)/Agricultural Science/Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology (PCMB) subjects to meet the UPCATET eligibility criteria.

BSc (Honours) Home Science

Applicants should have cleared Class XII in the Arts stream with PCB/PCM/PCMB/Home Science/Agricultural Science subjects to be eligible for UPCATET. Only female candidates can opt for this course.

Age criteria

  • As of December 31, 2020, candidates should be more than 16 years and less than 22 years in age.
  • For BVSc and H course, candidates should be minimum of 17 years and maximum of 25 years as on December 31, 2020.
  • Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category have the relaxation of age for five years for any course they apply.

BUAT Admission Process

Students must follow the following steps for BUAT Admission.

1) Registration

Candidates who are interested in getting admission in the Banda University of Agriculture and Technology should visit the official website of UPCATET to register online. Aspirants will have to register by entering the details and the course interested in. Once the candidate has registered, he/she can proceed to fill their information in the application form.

2) Apply Online

The student must fill and submit the application form online by entering their personal as well as academic details. The form also requires uploading images such as their passport size photograph and signature. Once all the information is provided, the candidate can proceed to pay the registration fee online. After the payment is made, the student has successfully applied for UPCATET.

3) Admit card

The candidate should download their admit card, which is a crucial document, and it needs to be carried to the exam centre mentioned on the hall ticket (admit card). The admit card will be made available online on the official website of UPCATET.

4) Appear for UPCATET

After receiving their admit card, students have to appear for the UPCATET exam. The state-level exam is conducted offline, and students are advised to reach the exam centre well ahead in time before the entrance exam.

5) Results

The results of UPCATET will be made available online in the form of a merit list. A cut-off list will also be released online. If a student meets the cut-off as set by the Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, he/she can apply for admission at the university.

6) Counselling

Students who make it to the cut-off list will have to attend the counselling session and will have to book their seat. They will have to pay the first-semester fee to complete the admission procedure.

1: The student is required to visit the official website of UPCATET. 

2: Click on 'New Registration'. 

3: Register your candidature online. 

4: After registering, proceed to fill and submit the application form. 

5: Fill the personal as well as academic details and upload the necessary images 

6: Pay the application fee. 

7: Once you have paid the mentioned application fee, you will receive a confirmation stating that the candidate has successfully applied for UPCATET.

UPCATET Preparation Tips

Candidates aiming for the UPCATET are advised to go through the following tips on how to prepare for the entrance test.

  • The candidate needs to be well aware of the exam pattern. One should know which sections carry greater weightage, the duration of the exam, the medium and mode of the test, number of questions and the weightage of marks.
  • Aspirants must also know the marking scheme of the UPCATET. If a student is not thorough with the exam pattern and marking scheme, it will become more difficult to prepare your plan before you get down to write.
  • A key aspect of preparation is knowing the syllabus. Candidates are advised to go through the prescribed syllabus thoroughly. Strategise your plans on a regular basis.
  • Categorise the subjects and topics into easy and difficult categories based on your practice.
  • Aim to cover the subjects thoroughly and stay conscious of the important topics that have to be covered.
  • Obtain the required books and guides. This will help you test yourself. It is recommended that aspirants get at least two to three prep books to help better understand the test.
  • One of the most critical elements while preparing for an entrance exam is time management. Students must work out a time table as to how much material to cover. Make a plan and revise the syllabus and content.
  • Attempt as many mock papers, and previous years’ question papers to help in better preparation.


Q. Which universities participate in the UPCATET?

A. There are four participating universities offering admissions based on the UPCATET results. They are Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Chandra Shekhar Azad University, Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology.

Q. Is there any negative marking in the UPCATET?

A. Yes, for every incorrect response one mark will be deducted. For every right answer, three marks are awarded.

Q. I have obtained my BSc in Home Science. Does that make me eligible to pursue a Master’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition?

A. Yes, you are eligible to go for your Master’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition. To take admission to the course, you will require to qualify the UPCATET.

Q. I have passed my class XII from Gujarat Board, and I am currently seeking admission for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture program at the UP University due to my father’s migration. Can I apply for UPCATET 2020 exam?

A. Yes, you are eligible if you fulfil the marks criteria. If you qualify the entrance exam, you will be required to produce the migration certificate or transfer certificate at the time of counselling.
