AILET 2021 - Eligibility Criteria

National Law University, Delhi has defined the eligibility conditions that must be fulfilled by all the law aspirants to register for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET).

All the courses have different criteria for eligibility.

B.A.LL.B. (Hons)

  • The student must have at least 55% aggregate in the exam from a recognized board.  
  • The candidate should acquire a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination. 
  • Applicants who are currently pursuing can also apply for the examination. 

LL.M. Course

  • The student is required to have passed LL.B. or any other equivalent degree.  
  • The aspiring candidate needs to attain 55% marks as an aggregate and 50% marks for those who belong to the ST/SC category.  
  • The applicants who are pursuing LL.B. can also apply for the examination. 

Ph.D. Courses

  • The applicant should hold a Master's degree from any recognized university.  
  • The student needs to acquire a minimum of 55% marks as aggregate and 50% for those who belong to the reserved category. 

AILET Syllabus

The subjects that comprise the undergraduate entrance Syllabus for AILET are Elementary Mathematics, English, General Knowledge, Legal Awareness, and Reasoning.

  • Elementary Mathematics: The section tests fundamental arithmetic skills. Questions are framed around basic mathematical and modern concepts. 
  • English: Reading Comprehension passages are based on Law themes. This section tests grammar, vocabulary, and verbal ability. 
  • General Knowledge: From static GK to current affairs, every aspect is covered up in this section. 
  • Legal Aptitude: Legal propositions are put up, for which answers are to be framed. 
  • Logical Reasoning: Analytically comprehending situations and conclusions that are logically driven comprise this section.

Registering for AILET

The candidate must ensure the availability of the following documents before beginning the application process.

  • A Scanned copy of the applicant's photograph and signature 
  • Online payment methods for the fee - Credit card/Debit card/Net Banking. 

Online Registration

To start the AILET registration process, visit the official website of National Law University, Delhi, i.e., nludelhi.ac.in. For registering for AILET 2021, candidates need to create a login account by providing the necessary information such as registered email, contact number, ID, name, address, parents' name, and date of birth.

Selecting the Law Course

AILET Exam is held for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research level courses, and hence, applicants must select the course they wish to apply for. The drop-down menu indicates the courses- B.A LLB (Hons), LLM, and Ph.D. Students can move to the next step for filling the application form after selecting the desired course.

Upload Scanned Images

·The candidate should upload a passport-sized photograph (it must cover 75% of the photo). The image should be within 150 KB and in one of the formats BMP, JPEG, or GIF.

·The signature must be made with black ink by the candidate on a clear white background. The image size should not exceed 150 KB.

Payment of AILET 2021 Exam Fee

This is the final step towards completing the AILET 2021 application form. There are two available modes of payment.

Offline Mode

The applicant can pay the application fee for the offline mode by selecting 'Cash Deposit at Post'. The nearest post office branch and city is to be chosen, and a challan will be generated. Students are required to pay the fee at the selected branch within 48 hours of challan generation.

The post office will keep one part of the deposit slip for records, and others will be returned to the candidate. Do not forget to collect the slip. When the fee is paid, the fee submission status will be updated within 72 hours.

Online Mode

Candidates should opt for the 'Online Payment Gateway' if the fee payment is to be done via Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking. If the transaction is done via Credit Card/Debit Card, then you have to give details like Card number, CVV number, Expiry Date.

In case the payment is made by the option of Net banking, then a redirected bank's site is shown where the candidate's account details are confirmed, and the payment is accepted. After the payment process is complete, the candidate will receive an acknowledgment slip on the registered Email ID. The applicant must take a print-out of this acknowledgment slip and keep it with them.

AILET 2021 Registration Important Instructions

The candidate should follow these important instructions while applying for AILET 2021.

  • The student must fill the application form in the online mode only. There is no provision for an offline mode of application by the university. 
  • The candidates should generate their registration ID or password for filling the AILET application form. 
  • The application form is only accepted by the university after successful payment of the exam fee. 
  • It is advised to review the form thoroughly to avoid any complications later. Candidates may edit the field in case of any change. 

The candidate should be eligible to appear for AILET 2021 after the following steps as mentioned. Providing inaccurate information will lead to complications later. The candidate should check the website regularly for further updates.

Preparation Tips for AILETS

Candidates must go through the following tips and tricks while applying for AILET 2021:

  • Solve previous years' questions and sample papers.

  • Clear your basic concepts of Mathematics.

AILET 2021 Exam Pattern

National Law University has designed different patterns of exam for each program: B.A.LLB, LLM, and Ph.D. The pattern for the AILET 2021 is mentioned below.

  • Mode: The examination will be organized in the offline mode. 
  • Duration of Exam: Candidates will get 1 hour 30 minutes to solve the question paper. 
  • Medium: The questions will be in the English language. 
  • Total Questions: There will be a total of 150 questions in the examination. 
  • Questions Type: Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) will be asked in the question paper. 
  • Marking Scheme: Every correctly marked answer will be awarded one mark. 
  • Negative marks: 0.25 marks will be subtracted from the candidate's total score for every incorrectly marked answer. 

Unlike UG and PG courses, the exam pattern for Ph.D. entrance in NLU, Delhi, is different. It consists of two sections. The first level will be an objective test based on Research Methodology and Legal Aptitude sections. The candidates clearing the minimum required AILET Cut off will be required to submit their Research Proposal on the desired topic.

AILET FAQs

Q. Is there an option for correction in the AILET application form?

No, NLU Delhi does not provide the provision for correcting the application once it is submitted. Hence, candidates are suggested to fill in all the details carefully.

Q. In case I am unable to attend the exam, will I get a refund of my fees?

No, the application fee is non-refundable.

Q. Which colleges accept the AILET score?

The AILET score is accepted by only the National Law University, New Delhi.

Q. Is there negative marking in AILET exams?

Yes, the AILET has negative marking. For every incorrectly marked answer, 0.25 marks are deducted.

Q. Is there an option for lateral entry to B.A. LLB in NLU, Delhi?

No, NLU Delhi offers no such provision for lateral entry into the BA LLB course.
