Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham - The newest institution to be rewarded with an ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an independent body established in 1994 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to appraise and certify institutes of more advanced education in the country was Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. To be eligible for applying for the NAAC certificate, an academic institute should have completed 5 years. In January 2009, when Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham had applied for the certification, it had just completed 6 years. ‘A’ is the topmost grade that can be awarded to the first-rate institutions for more advanced learning.
