New Education Policy 2020 Highlights

It is well known to us that the New Educational Policy has been already approved by the Union Cabinet. Several reforms have been there if you will compare the same with the last Educational Policy which we had been following till yet. Today in this article we will be focusing towards the major highlights of the New Education Policy 2020 and will try to understand them and their benefits from a student’s perspective.

1.)    First Education Policy of 21st Century

Before this the Educational policy was approved and implemented 34 Years back in 1986 as National Policy on Education. After that in 2020 this New Educational policy came and became the very First Education Policy of 21st Century

2.)    Major Change in 10 + 2 structure of school curricula

This New Educational Policy has this aim to achieve 100% Youth and Adult Literacy, so it has done few demanding changes in the educational Patterns. The 10 + 2 structure of school curricula is to be replaced by 5+3+3+4 curricular structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14 and 14-18 respectively.

3.)    Board Examinations and Mandatory Grades

According to the New Educational Policy all students must take school examinations in Grades 3,5 an 8 which will be taken by appropriate authority.

For Board Exams it will continue in the same way as it was getting continued but will be redesigned with holistic development as the aim.

4.)    Aims to Increase Gross Enrolment Ratio

One of the salient features of the New Educational Policy is to aim for increase in the Gross Enrolment Ratio in the higher education including vocational education from 26% in 2018 to 50% by 2035. It means that it aims to add 3.5 crores new seats to higher education institution.

5.)    Emphasis on “BAL Bhavans”

New Educational Policy will be encouraging to establish “Bal Bhavans” in every districts of the state which will aim to be like a special day time boarding schools where a student can get a wonderful opportunity to participate in art-related, career-related and play related activities. It will be a great initiate if seen from the overall development from children’s perspective.

6.)    NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY FORUM

This is one of the masterpieces highlight of the New Education Policy 2020 which says that an autonomous body NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY FORUM(NETF), will be created by the government to provide the platform for several beneficial things like exchange of ideas,  assessment, planning, administration etc.

Indeed, the first Educational policy of 21st century consists of several gifts for young generation in educational sector. New Education Policy 2020 aims to increase the literacy rate of our nation and targets to attain 100% literacy by 2035. We as a student should be responsible enough to read the whole educational policy approved by the government and to utilise it to the fullest and enhance our personality, knowledge, and creativity.
