Engineering students have seen last one year in the way they have never ever expected. Engineering is meant to understood by practical method amalgamated with related theory. Moreover, these internships, summer trainings these were also the most important pillars for the career of the engineering students. These things were fruitful at the time of campus placements for the students. In this pandemic a wise student will not only rely on the campus drive but will put his efforts and hard work to crack the off-campus placements also.
Several MNCs have read this condition of ongoing pandemic and rather than conducting placements drive through college portal, they are inviting the students for the online off campus drive where they are hiring the students based on their talents and skills. Thus at this time it becomes necessary for the students to enhance certain skills which are in demand in the job market and can learn the basics of them so that it will be easy for them to convert the off-campus drive. Today in this article we will be focussing on the 4th year Engineering students and will be telling few simple ways to practice and prepare for the off-campus drive.
1.) Communication skills
The very first thing which will be noticed by these MNCs will be your communications skills. They will be evaluating a student based on his communication in the skype round/telephonic round.
In MNCs having a good communication skill is always preferred. A student should practice for this and should prepare for some common questions which will be asked like – Introduce yourself, they will also be noticing the way you interact with them and greet the interviewers.
2.) Technical skills
We all are aware that in pandemic the students attended online classes. They have also given the online objective papers for their semesters. It could be possible that they don’t have learnt the technical things which are in demand in the industry.
Students should do R&D and should find which technologies and skills are currently in high demand and should learn it in a better way. Skills like Data Analysis, Coding, Software Development are currently in very high demand. MNCs are paying well even to the skilled freshers. A student must give efforts in these and should learn and practice any one technology as an advanced level. This will be helping him to crack multiple off-campus placements.
3.) Aptitude Tests
This is in trend from past few years that colleges enrolled students for few examinations like AMCAT, Co-Cubes and all. These have tie-ups with different companies and based on the percentile or score which a student has got the companies will mail them for the openings which they will have.
It is generally scene that the initial shortlisting is done by the MNCs based on the score only. It is very important to have a good aptitude knowledge and problem-solving skills to score better in these examinations and crack a dream IT company through it.
4.) Certifications and Courses
Students have not been able to attend the summer internships even the projects which they will have produced may or may not be as much effective due to less physical interactions and discussions with their project mates. This can be overcome by having some of the certifications and online courses.
While having an interview in the IT company or MNCs you can tell them about your certifications as your achievements. This will be obviously going to help and will increase the chances of getting selected in an off-campus drive.
For an engineering student, it is always a dream to get placed in their dream company. Your dream will be requiring some extra efforts to get fulfilled. In these pandemic times where you can’t rely on the college only for your placements you should give your time and hard work on some necessary things and must give as much off-campus interview as you can. Rejections will make you strong and even stronger and by learning from those rejections one day you will be going to do your work in your dream company.
